Ideas that help leaders ask better questions.
Practical perspectives from the intersection of risk, actuarial analysis, governance and technology.
From a risk register to a decision
A useful risk record connects an objective, a cause, an uncertain event and a consequence. Management must then be able to see the exposure, controls, ownership and decision required. Review whether each principal risk changes an actual choice: investment, pricing, retention, continuity or control.
When a capital projection becomes useful
A projected ratio is the beginning of the discussion. Ask what drives available capital and capital requirements, whether liquidity deteriorates before solvency, and whether management actions can happen within the assumed period. Compare action and no-action outcomes using consistent assumptions.
Why workflow matters in compliance
An obligation needs a source, an accountable owner, affected activities, evidence and a review cycle. Regulatory change becomes operational when applicability, impact and implementation actions are recorded and challenged. Reporting should identify overdue decisions and control gaps.
Learning as an implementation tool
A workshop succeeds when participants can perform a task differently afterward. Combine instruction with a workplace assignment, feedback and an agreed follow-up. For risk owners, that may be a better assessment; for boards, a stronger decision paper; for modellers, a clearer sensitivity analysis.
